PRESIDENT YUDHOYONO INTRODUCES 6 FUNDEMENTAL DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIES

Jakarta, Aug 19 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has said the paradigm of "Development for All" could only be carried out by adopting six fundamental development strategies.

The president made the statement in his state-of-the-nation address on national development in regional perspective before the special plenary session of the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) here on Wednesday.

According to the president, the first strategy is an inclusive one that ensures equity and justice, that respects and maintains the Indonesian people's diversity.

He said development to reach Indonesia's aspirations of independence should not be interpreted in a narrow sense of the word, by merely aiming at a high economic growth rate, but not if carried out and enjoyed by only a small group of economic players or by a few regions.

"The Central and Regional Governments ought to constantly renew their common understanding and consensus in developing Indonesia," the president said.

Secondly, the president said the framework of the Development for All should have a territorial dimension, while the third is to create an integrated national economy in the globalization era.

The fourth strategy which also becomes one of the keys to a successful Development for All is local economic development in every region, with the purpose of developing a strong domestic economy nation-wide.

The president said a strong domestic economy was the main asset for a nation in order to be glorious in the midst of globalization onslaught.

According to the head of state, the Development for All paradigm also demanded the fifth strategy which was harmony and balance between growth and equity.

The president said such strategy was also a correction of the previous development policy which was known as the trickle-down effect.

He said the sixth strategy emphasized on the promotion of human quality, meaning that the Indonesian people are not merely an object but conversely, the subject of the development.
