BATAVIA AIR MAKES EMERGENCY LANDING IN SURABAYA
Surabaya, E Java, Aug 19 (ANTARA) - A Batavia Air plane on the Surabaya-Jakarta flight had to make an emergency landing at Juanda airport in Surabaya because of engine trouble.
"Knowing that there is something wrong with the engine, the pilot of Batavia Air notified the passengers that the aircraft will have to return to Juanda," a Batavia Air passenger, Hamim, said in Surabaya Wednesday.
He said the pilot made the right decision to safe the passengers and the plane.
"After the pilot told the passengers that something went wrong with the engines, the passengers looked panic. They felt some shocks with the plane, which was not normal," he said.
"The plane took off on time at 9 a.m local time. But then after flying about 15 minutes, we felt some shocks, but soon we managed to land safely at Juanada airport at 9.309 a.m," he said.
Later at Juanda, Batavia Air immediately made arrangements for the passengers to fly on Mandala Airlines. And the passengers who already paid a ticket for Rp377.000 each, received a new ticket without extra payment.
"I think of the hundreds of passengers of Batavia Air, only a few continued their flight to Jakarta by Mandala which took off at 10.15," he said.
About the incident, the administrator of Juanda airport, the spokesman for PT Angkasa Pura I, Firstson Mansyur, and the District Manager of Batavia Air James Tony Lumowa did not say much, saying only that they had yet to receive a report on the incident.
