ISMAN HOPES SON NOT INVOLVED IN TERRORISM
Kudus, C Java, Aug 19 (ANTARA) - Isman, the father of Bagus Budi Pranoto alias Urwah, wanted by the police for alleged involvement in terrorism, expressed the hope here on Wednesday that the allegation was not true.
"As far as I know Bagus is a good and devout son and therefore as a father it is appropriate for him to hope he is not really involved in a terrorist network," he said at his residence in Mijen, Kaliwungu, Kudus, Central Java.
Isman admitted he did not know at all that his son was allegedly involved in the bombings of JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotels in Jakarta on July 17.
"I only knew he was wanted by the police from you. But I still do not fully believe he is involved," he said to some newsmen.
He said his family had never received any information about his whereabouts because he never returned home.
"Since he got married two years ago with a girl from Solo (Central Java), his family has never known his whereabout. Even his family do not know his address in Solo," he said.
After leaving the Marifatul Ulum Islamic elementary school (madrasah ibtidaiyah-MI), Bagus continued his study at the Almuttaqim Islamic boarding school (pesantren) in Sowan Kidul, Kedung, Jepara.
When asked about Bagus' activities after leaving the pesantren, Isman would not answer. "Sorry, I could not answer it because it is his private affairs," he said.
One of Bagus' neighbours, Purwantini, meanwhile said that she saw Bagus returning home with his wife in the post-Islamic fasting holiday in 2008.
"But, the neighbours did not know Bagus' wife because she never associated with them. Even the neighbours did not see her face as it was always covered by a veil," she said.
"The neighbours only know Bagus' wife is from Solo. No more than that," she said.
She said while at home Bagus always conducted prayers at a local mosque. "The villagers were shocked upon hearing that Bagus was involved in a terrorist network. They have so far known Bagus as a polite man," she said.
She said people never knew his activities after leaving the madrasah, adding he always said everytime he returned home he wanted to study.
The police recently released pictures of four people wanted in connection with the hotel bombings that left nine people dead including two suicide bombers and wounded more than 50 others.
One of them belonged to Bagus while the three others to Syaifudin Zuhri bin Djaelani Irsyad alias Udin alias Soleh, Ario Sudarso alias Suparjo Dwi Anggoro alias Aji alias Dayat alias Mistam Usamudin and Mohamad Syahrir.***4***
