TORTURED INDONESIAN MAID ARRIVES IN BANDUNG

Bandung, W Java, Indonesia, Aug 19 (ANTARA) - Siti Hajar, an Indonesian maid who was tortured by her employer in Malaysia, arrived at Bandung's Husein Sastranegara airport here on Wednedsday.

Accompanied by Susapto Anggoro Broto, an Indonesian embassy official in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Siti Hajar arrived by an Air Asia plane here at 2:45 on Wednesday afternoon from Kuala Lumpur.

The woman from Garut who attracted media attention after having been allegedly tortured by her Malaysian employer was picked up at Husein Sastranegara airport by Garut Vice Mayor Dicky Chandra, Garut Employment Office chief Hj Elka Nurhalimah, and a number of her family members.

"I am happy to return to West Java to meet my family and children again," Siti Hajar said with her voice cracked with emotion.

Before leaving for Indonesia, Siti Hajar told Bernama news agency in Kuala Lumpur that she was happy to return home but unable to forgive her Malaysian female employer after three years of seeking livelihood in the country.

"I will not forgive her for as long as I live. I will always remember this forever," Siti Hajar, whose painful ordeal received widespread local and foreign media attention, told Bernama.

Unable to withstand repeated torture, Siti Hajar fled from her employer's home in the Lanai Kiara Condominium, Mount Kiara on June 8, 2009 and sought refuge in the Indonesian embassy.

Siti Hajar's employer, Hau Yuan Tyng, a 43-year old single mother of two, was charged in the Sessions Court in June but pleaded not guilty to three charges of causing hurt to her maid.

"I am thankful to the Indonesian embassy for being caring and taking care of me till I recovered. Their care cannot be repaid and I will return to Malaysia to attend the trial later," Siti Hajar said.

Besides being able to meet her family, Siti Hajar was also happy to have got her back pay of RM17,000 (US$4,783).

"I will use the money to buy a house and pay for my children's education," she said, adding that her ordeal would not deter her from working in Malaysia if given the opportunity. ***3***
