RF-Japanese investment forum to be held in Irkutsk in early Oct.
IRKUTSK, August 19 (Itar-Tass) - The sixth Russian-Japanese investment forum will be held in Irkutsk in the beginning of October, the governor's press service told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.
The forum will focus on opportunities to attract Japan's investments
into Siberia and the Far East, expand joint ventures and develop relations
between regions of the two countries, the press service said.
As for trade turnover with Japan, Irkutsk Region ranks first among
Russian regions. In 2008 the Baikal region supplied over one billion U.S.
dollar goods to Japan. Siberians export aluminium, ferrous metals and
cellulose. It imports different equipment, transport and other means.
Over 20 years Russian-Japanese lumber factories, "Igirma Tairiku" and
"TM Baikal", operate in the region. For the last year Irkutsk Oil Company
and Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC) set up joint
ventures to develop three hydrocarbon sections - INK-North and INK-West.
