PDIP, DEMOCRATIC PARTY LEADERS DISCUSS VARIOUS ISSUES
Jakarta, Aug 21 (ANTARA) - Democratic Party (PD) Chairman Hadi Utomo met with Indonesian Democratic Party- Struggle (PDIP) Chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputry on Wednesday night to discuss various issues.
A PDIP spokesman, Tjahjo Kumolo, here on Thursday confirmed the meeting of the two party leaders but said so far they had not reached any deal on the possibility of the PDIP taking part in Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's government for the 2009-2014 period.
"Pak Hadi Utomo and the chairman of the PD's faction in the House of Representatives, Syaris Hasan, came to Megawati's residence on Teuku Umar street on Wednesday night for a gathering, but they also discussed various issues," Kumolo said.
He said the meeting lasted for more than one hour or from 7:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.
According to Kumolo, such a meeting between the two nationalist parties would probably be intensified in the days to come in the state's and nation's interest.
"Similar meetings may be held in the future in the interest of the people, state and nation," Kumolo said, adding that in the meeting on Wednesday night Megawati was accompanied by PDIP advisory board chairman Taufik Kiemas (Megawati's husband) and his deputy Sabam Sirait, Pramono Anung, Puan Maharani, and Adang Ruchiatna.***
