ALROSA to start shipping raw diamonds to Kristall plant Sept
BARNAUL, August 22 (Itar-Tass) -- Russia's diamond-mining monopoly
ALROSA in September will start shipments of raw diamonds to the Kristall
plant, in Barnaul, which has been idle since the beginning of the year,
the company's president Fyodor Andreyev said in a message addressed to the
governor of the Altai Territory, Alexander Karlin, the management told
Itar-Tass on Friday. This is going to be a give-and-take arrangement.
"The variety of raw materials, the cost of processing and the
conditions of quality control have been agreed with the Barnaul-based
plant," ALROSA's president said.
The Kristall plant was opened in 1973. Since 1998 it has operated on
give-and-take terms. ALROSA has been its main client. The supplies have
been suspended since the beginning of the year and the plant remained
idle. At the decision of territorial authorities its 250 workers were
granted temporary employment.
