Rus military chief of gen staff to inspect Darkhan-2.

MOSCOW, August 24 (Itar-Tass) ----The Chief of the Russian Armed
Forces General Staff Gen of the Army Nickolai Makarov will inspect the
joint Russia-Mongolia Darkhan - 2 tactical exercises and flew to Mongolia to this end on Monday, the press-service of the Russian Defence Ministry told ITAR-TASS.

During the visit he is to meet the leadership of Mongolian Defence
Ministry and the General Staff. Together with his Mongolian colleagues the
Russian top military will inspect the joint special tactical exercises of
the maintenance forces Darkhan-2.
The Russian-Mongolian maneuvers, which began on August 17 in
accordance with the RF Defence Ministry and Mongolian Armed Forces'
cooperation plan, will last till September 15. More than 200 servicemen of
a separate maintenance battalion of the Siberian military district and up
to 90 units of equipment are taking part in the drills.
Combat-training tasks fulfilled during the exercises are aimed at
raising the combat readiness level of military units, at checking the
technical readiness of the military equipment for international
peacemaking missions, the press-service reported.
