.

ULAN BATOR, August 25 (Itar-Tass) - Economy is the key area of
Russian-Mongolian relationstion, President Dmitry Medvedev told a news
conference after the talks with his Mongolian counterpart Elbegdorj
Tsakhia on Tuesday.
"Over the past years our economic relations boosted and bilateral
trade grew despite the existing problems," he said.
At the same time the Russian leader expressed confidence that "the
documents that had been signed on Tuesday will supplement the existing
cooperation." This concerns "the mining industry, transport
infrastructure, agriculture and, of course, Erdenet Mining Corporation and
Mongolrostsvetmet gold mining company are key players here," he said.
Moreover, the two parties cooperate in developing Mongolia's transport
infrastructure and in exploring the Dornod uranium deposit, Medvedev said.
"Border and interregional cooperation that accounts for over 70
percent of the trade turnover also deepens," he said. "This is a good
figure and we should keep it unchanged in the future."
"We also have military and technical cooperation, including the
Darkhan-2 joint exercise that is underway in Mongolia. Tomorrow we will
take part in the festivities devoted to the 70th anniversary of our
victory in the battle of Khalkhin Gol," Medvedev said adding that this
battle turned the tide of war in the Far East.
Russia and Mongolia signed a declaration on strategic partnership
development and a treaty to launch a joint venture on uranium exploration
and development.
Moreover, after the talks the Russian Railways Company (RZD) and
Mongolia's Railway Department sealed a memorandum on cooperation as well
as agreed to boost relations between the Ulan Bator Railways and
Transmashholding, Russia's biggest manufacturer of locomotives and railway
equipment.
The two countries' central election committees also agreed to
cooperate in exchanging legal information.
