Japan may join uranium development project in Mongolia - Rosatom.
ULAN BATOR, August 25 (Itar-Tass) - Russia has not ruled out an
opportunity for tripartite uranium development projects on Mongolia's
territory with participation of Japanese partners, the head of the Russian federal nuclear power corporation Rosatom, said on Tuesday.
"We have good cooperation with Japanese companies, therefore our
projects in Mongolia can be tripartite. This is quite acceptable for us,"
Sergei Kiriyenko told reporters on Tuesday.
He recalled that Rosatom has several strategic projects, including
those on the nuclear cycle, with Japanese partners.
In reply to the question whether Rosatom is ready to build a nuclear
power plant in Mongolia Kiriyenko said, "aside from taking appropriate
decisions much should be done in Mongolia."
"It is evident that nobody in Mongolia needs 1,000MW nuclear power
plants. Therefore I believe we can speak about building small or
medium-capacity plants like those we build in the Far North. This may
sound interesting for the Mongolian side," he said.
