25/8 Tass 163
ULAN BATOR, August 25 (Itar-Tass) -- The presidents of Russia and
Mongolia, Dmitry Medvedev and Tsahiagiyn Elbegdorzh, held on Tuesday
friendly constructive talks. They briefed reporters on this at a news
conference.
Medvedev thanked his counterpart "for a friendly and constructive
approach." "We have arranged to maintain working contacts through our
staffs and also by phone," he said.
"I must say getting personally acquainted and establishing trusting
relations is the basis for developing cooperation," the Mongolian
president said in his turn. He said, "During the visit we have been able
to discuss questions of strategic partnership in the areas of politics, in
commercial and economic cooperation and humanitarian ties." All this is
reflected in the Declaration on the Development of Strategic Cooperation
the presidents signed on Tuesday. Elbegdorzh also noted that relations
between the two countries "are sealed by the work of the peoples, by sweat
and blood of our people."
Medvedev made assurances that the sides "will develop not only
economic but also cultural ties between the peoples." "We are going to
continue supporting the studies of the Russian language in Mongolia and of
the Mongolian language in Russia," Medvedev said. He said these are the
areas that "determine our relations, and we must give them special
attention."
"We also touched upon regional problems, international affairs. Our
countries are unanimous on this," Medvedev said. "Our countries are
interested in stability and peace in Asia," he said.
