Far Eastern Federal District sets up anti-corruption council

KHABAROVSK, August 27 (Itar-Tass) - An anti-corruption council has
been set up under the office of the presidential envoy in the Far Eastern
Federal District, an official said.
"The objective of the council is to coordinate actions by government
bodies, the public and media outlets in implementing the national plan to
fight corruption in the Russian regions of the Far East," the official at
the press service of the envoy's office told Itar-Tass on Thursday.
Sessions will be held at least twice a year. Taking part in them will
be experts, and representatives of government and local self-rule bodies,
companies and organizations, public associations, and media outlets.
The Council will control the implementation of measures envisioned by
the national anti-corruption plan, and prepare proposals to enhance its
effectiveness.
A helpline has been launched at the office of the presidential envoy,
within the framework of the measures to combat corruption.
According to the department of the Prosecutor General's Office in the
Far Eastern Federal District, "1,069 office crimes were exposed in the
first half of this year; 120 facts of bribe-taking, and 64 facts of
bribe-giving. As many as 255 criminal cases related to corruption were
sent to courts in the designated period."
