UAE MoH to have modern H1N1 virus lab within 60 days
Abu Dhabi, Aug 30, 2009 (WAM)- The Ministry of Health will have within 60 days a state-of-the-art virology laboratory to conduct swift H1N1 tests in 24 hours. ''The modern reference lab will be built in Al Qasimi Hospital in Sharjah and will be a new addition to the already existing lab services," he said after signing a contract for establishing the lab with Abdul Aziz Al Madfa, Director of Citomed, a biotechnology company.
“The lab is part of the MoH's strategy to upgrade its curative services in the northern emirates. Once operational, the lab will examine samples taken from patients, thus saving time and energy of medical professionals and patients whereas some samples are usually sent to Abu Dhabi or even abroad for testing,” he added. A H1N1 virus test needs more than a week to conduct abroad but with this new facility the test will be conducted within 24 hours at the maximum.
