Kozak remembers Beslan tragedy victims
VLADIKAVKAZ, September 5 (Itar-Tass) -- Russian Vice Prime Minister
Dmitry Kozak visited Beslan on Friday to commemorate the victims of the
terrorist attack on a secondary school in this North Ossetian city five
years ago.
He and Olympstroi Corporation Head Teimuraz Bolloyev laid flowers at
the memorial cemetery in Beslan.
"On behalf of the government and the leadership of the country I
express sympathy to the residents of Beslan and want to assure you that we
will do everything we can in order to prevent such events in the future,"
Kozak said.
Kozak was appointed the plenipotentiary representative of the Russian
president to the Southern Federal District after the tragedy in Beslan and
negotiated with the families of those killed and wounded for several
years. His authority helped stop spontaneous protests organised by the
victims' families who blocked federal highways several times, demanding an
objective investigation of the terrorist act.

interior department spokesman Viktor Biryukov told Itar-Tass.
"All events will be held under special control of police. Before their
start, their venues will be examined by policemen and specially trained
dogs, and metal detectors will be installed at the entrances for all the
visitors to pass through," he said.
About 2,000 policemen support volunteers and 780 private security firm
personnel will also help police ensure law and order during the
festivities, Biryukov said.
.Indian president to wind up visit to Russia.
ST. PETERSBURG, September 5 (Itar-Tass) -- Indian President Pratibha
Patil will wind up her visit to Russia on Saturday with a tour of St.
Petersburg.
She will arrive in the city from Moscow in the afternoon.
Most of the time will be given to sightseeing, but the schedule
includes several business meetings as well.
Patil plans to discuss prospects for cooperation between India and St.
Petersburg during her meeting with the city's Vice Governor Alexander
Vakhmistrov. She will also meet with the pupils of a state school of
advanced Hindi studies.
The Indian president will visit the Hermitage.
On Sunday morning, Patil is scheduled to visit Peterhof and leave St.
Petersburg at around noon to fly to Dushanbe.
Patil arrived in Russia on a state visit at the invitation of
President Dmitry Medvedev. The official part of the visit began on
Thursday, September 3, with a meeting with Medvedev. On Friday, September
4, the president met with Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.
The heads of the two states attended a gala concert on the new stage
of the Bolshoi Theatre.
In an interview with Itar-Tass head of her trip, she noted that
relations between India and Russia are characterised by "succession,
mutual trust and reliability", and are an example of friendly interaction
and mutually beneficial cooperation.
Earlier, Patil, who is visiting Russia for the first time, said she
was looking forward to meeting with the Russian leaders. In her opinion,
"close friendship and special relations between the two states will grow
in strength even more".
She also noted that "India experiences a firm feeling of emotional
attachment to Russia".
"Just mention the name of Russia in our country, and people will
immediately recall the feeling of friendship and respect," the head of
state said. "We in India value Russia as our reliable friend that passed
the test of time. We also regard Russia as a very important country,
playing an active role as a major power whose opinion on problems,
provoking global concern, attracts universal attention."
India's Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao, in comments on the upcoming
visit, said Russian-Indian relations are the partnership based on mutual
trust, friendship and comprehensive cooperation.
Broad-scale cooperation in strategic fields, such as defense, nuclear
power generation and aerospace, forms a reliable foundation of bilateral
ties, she noted.
Last December, Medvedev made an official visit to New Delhi. A package
of agreements was signed in the presence of the leaders of the two
countries, which showed the parties' intention to cooperate in all fields.
According to an intergovernmental agreement, Russia will take part in
the construction of four reactors at India's Kudankulam nuclear power
plant, as well as in the construction of NPPs of Russian design in other
parts of India.
Russia and India signed a memorandum of mutual understanding on joint
work in the field of manned space flights. An agreement was reached that
the first Indian astronaut would fly into space aboard a Russian Soyuz in
2013.
The space flight of the first Indian astronaut should be followed by
India's launching its own spacecraft after 2015.
