GREENPEACE UNIVERSITY IN INDONESIA PRODUCES FIRST BATCH OF GRADUATES

Jakarta, Sept 7 (ANTARA) - Greenpeace University has produced its first batch of six young graduates.

Greenpeace Indonesia in a press statement in Jakarta Monday said the installation of the six young graduates took place last Thursday (Sept 3) following a three-month course.

The training held at the Greenpeace office in Jakarta was followed by six youngsters who will be campaigning on environmental conservation in an effective way.

Their subjects of their training included all important aspects of the operations of Greenpeace including campaigns, research, communications, action and fund raising.

They will also be told to develop their own campaigns in support of Greenpeace actions and operations in Indonesia.

Greenpeace Indonesian representative Nur Hidayati said with the Greenpeace University program the organization made an investement for Indonesia's future, including creating a skilled and talented young generation, future fully committed leaders, and environmental activists ushering Indonesia to the correct direction of national development.

One of the graduates, Hanifah Azzahra, said the program will help herself understand effective and long-term ways of environmental campaigns.

Another graduate, Lalitia Apsari, said she had a strong wish to work together with the government in caring for and maintenance of the environment and Indonesian culture.

According to Executive Director of Southeast Greenpeace Von Hernandez, the program is also expected to give a contribution to the aspirations of youngsters to become an important part of the instrument of change.

Hernandez also said that amidst the growing threats of climate change the earth is highly dependent on the success of efforts of putting an end to environmental exploitation.

Greenpeace is a global campaigning organisation with actions of changing behaviours and attitudes, to protect and preserve the environment, and for the promotion of peace in the world.***3***
