.Dominican Rep FM sets out on 1st official visit to Russia.
HAVANA, September 8 (Itar-Tass) - Carlos Morales Troncoso, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic, sets out on his first-ever official visit to Russia.
The Foreign Ministry of the Caribbean country announced Monday that
the purpose of the three-day visit is to strengthen the political and
business dialogues and to sign a number of agreements on cooperation.
In particular, provision is made for the signing of intergovernmental
agreements on cooperation in the fields of transportation by air and on
the abolition of visas for the holders of diplomatic and service passports.
The Dominican Minister is to hold talks with his Russian counterpart
Sergei Lavrov to discuss terms for foreign investments in the Russian
Federation (RF). Troncoso is also planning to have meetings and hold talks
in the RF Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Trade turnover between Russia and the Dominican Republic runs at about
$20 million. About 50,000 Russian tourists vacation in that Caribbean
country every year.
.Medvedev to present awards to '08 Olympic winners Tue.
MOSCOW, September 8 (Itar-Tass) - President Dmitry Medvedev is to
present State awards to the winners and medallists of the 2008 Beijing
Olympic Games here on Tuesday.
The Order "For Services to the Fatherland", 4th Class, has been
awarded to three-time Olympic winner Buvaisa Saitiyev (freestyle
wrestling) and two-time Olympic winner Yelena Isinbayeva (athletics)
The Order of Honour goes to four-time Olympic winners Anastasia
Davydova and Anastasia Yermakova (synchronous swimming), two-time Olympic
winner Dmitry Sautin (springboard diving), and gold medallists Yelena
Dementyeva (tennis) and Maxim Opalyov (kayak and canoe).
The medal of the Order "For Services to the Fatherland", 2nd Class, is
to be presented to swimmer Arkady Vyatchanin, medallist of the Beijing
Olympics.
The President meets with Russian sportsmen regularly. He devotes his
attention to sports in both statesmanlike and personal sense. Medvedev
says he takes swims for 1-1.5 km every day and, in winter, actively
masters downhill skiing.
Medvedev also likes to watch sports competitions. Thus, when staying
in Sochi in August he together with Premier Vladimir Putin visited a city
cafe and watched the broadcast of the friendly soccer match between the
national teams of Russia and Argentina.
.ACRF chief to discuss anti-crisis measures in Altai Tue.
BARNAUL, September 8 (Itar-Tass) - Sergei Stepashin, Chairman of the
Audit Chamber of the Russian Federation (ACRF), is to hold a conference
here on Tuesday to review the implementation of the programme for
anti-crisis measures in the Altai Territory, a Territorial administration
official has told Itar-Tass.
Territorial Governor Alexander Karlin and the chiefs of relevant
agencies in the region will take part in the conference.
The programme for anti-crisis measures presupposes the establishment
of a Territorial leasing foundation for a technical re-equipment of
agricultural and industrial production facilities, the issue of subsidies
from the Territorial budget to reimburse entrepreneurs' expenses on the
payment of taxes, support for beginner businessmen, the development of
beekeeping, the retraining of the unemployed and of specialists who are on
the verge of dismissal, as well as other measures.
.Int'l congress of fishermen held in Vladivostok Tue.
VLADIVOSTOK, September 8 (Itar-Tass) - An international congress of
fishermen opens here on Tuesday, with more than 500 delegates, among them
200 ones from 18 foreign counties, participating.
Foreign delegates represent such countries as the United States,
Germany, the Republic of Korea, China, the Democratic People's Republic of
Korea, Chile, Ukraine, Japan, Australia, Spain, Denmark, Latvia, Britain,
and Thailand.
Russia's regions are represented by delegations of Moscow, Ryazan,
Magadan, Murmansk, and Kemerovo Regions, Kamchatka, Altai, Perm,
Khabarovsk Territories, and Chukotka.
Andrei Krainiy, Director of the Federal Agency for Fishery, as well
scientists, an official at the FAO Fisheires and Aquaculture Department,
and members of fishery associations of Russia and Primorsky (maritime)
Territory will be among guests of honour.
An official at the forum's organising committee has told Itar-Tass
that this year the congress is dedicated to the strategy for sustainable
fishery management and maintenance of the stability of the markets of fish
products.
Apart from a plenary session, and panel discussions, the forum's
programme provides for the 4th international fishing industry exhibition,
a Far Eastern fishery science council, and a Man and Sea TV festival. The
congress is to come to a close on September 10.
