Earthquake jolts Georgia, no word about victims.
TBILISI, September 8 (Itar-Tass) - An earthquake rocked Georgia at
abouot 02:41 local time Tuesday. Earth jolts were felt in the capital of
Georgia and a number of other cities in the country's east and west.
According to preliminary data, the magnitude of the earthquake was
five points on the 12-point scale in Tbilisi and six points in a number of
other areas. There is no information so far as to where the epicenter of
the quake was.
Earth jolts in Tbilisi were so strong that occupants in the upper
floors of multistorey buildings went outdoors for fear of an aftershock.
There has been no word about victims or damage.

was 5.0 points (7-8 points according to the 12-point system). Earth jolts
measured 5-6 points in Tbilisi ina number of areas inGeorgias eastandwest
and fivepoints in Tbilisi.

.Barents Rescue joint exercises begin in Murmansk Tue.
MOSCOW, September 8 (Itar-Tass) - The Barents Rescue joint exercises
of the rescue services of Russia, Finland, Norway, and Sweden begin in
Murmansk on Tuesday.
An official at the information department of the Russian Ministry for
Emergencies (RME) has told Itar-Tass that the exercises are held under the
Agremeent among the governments of the member-countries of the Barents
Euro-Arctic Council for the fourth time and the first time in Russia.
The RME official said, "The Russian delegation at the exercises is
headed by Ruslan Tsalikov, RME First Deputy Minister, and Pavel Plat,
chief military expert of the RME".
The rescue services of the four countries are planning to drill mutual
notification in the event of an emergency in the environs of a storage of
radioactive waste, and joint actions in the conduct of search-and-rescue
operations at sea in the area of the Varanger Fjord.
Participants in the joint exercises are also to drill action to
eliminate the aftermath of a major road accident, put out a forest fire in
a border strip, as well as a blaze aboard a ship and deal with an oilspill
at sea.
The exercises are to end on September 10.
.Venezuela president to discuss cooperation in Belarus.
MINSK, September 8 (Itar-Tass) - President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela
arrives here on Tuesday for a two-day visit.
"During the visit, Hugo Chavez is planning to meet with the
Belarussian leadership. He intends to deliver a popular science lecture at
the National Library of Belarus," the press service of the Embassy of
Venezuela to Belarus announced.
The programme for Chavez stay also provides for a tour of the Minsk
factory for the manufacture of wheeled truck tractors and a visit to the
Military Academy. The Venezuelan leader will visit Belarus within the
scope of his 11-day tour abroad.
Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said earlier that the
development of versatile relations with Venezuela is a priority of his
country's foreign policy. He said, "The high level of inter-state
political dialogue is accompanied with meticulous work to lay a reliable
economic foundation of bilateral relations".
One of the main interests of Belarus in Venezuela is to participate in
the development of oil deposits. In 2007 the two countries established a
joint-venture enterprise for the production of oil, the Petrolera
BeloVensolana, with the participation of the Belarusneft production
association and the Venezuealan state-run oil company, the Petroleos de
Benezuela.
In recente years Lukashenko and Chavez repeatedly stated mutual
friendship and exchanged visits. Lukashenko paid an official visit to
Venezuela in December 2007. Chavez visited Belarus three times -- in
2006, 2007 and 2008.
