Mohammed launches Emirates Appreciation Award for Sports
Dubai, Sept 8, 2009 (WAM) - Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai H. H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has instituted the Emirates Appreciation award for sports as part of national efforts advance sports movement. The launch of the award is in line with instructions given by President H.H.
Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to support the national sports and youth sectors and upgrade the organisational, technical and administrative aspects of the sports movement. The incentive award is also serves the strategy of the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare to stimulate youngsters towards excellence and creativity, and improve technical and administrative performance of players administrators.
A five-member board of trustees will be set under the presidency of H.E.
Abdul Rahman Mohammed Al Owais, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development and Chairman of the Authority. The board, which draws members of high technical and administrative expertise, will serve a tenure of two years which could be renewed. Al Owais hailed the move as a vital milestone in the history of the UAE sports.
“It will substantially contribute to leveraging the UAE sports as per the vision and strategy of the political leadership,'' he affirmed. A cash prize of Dh 200,000 will be given to the targeted categories of administrators (chairmen of associations, clubs and committees), players of both sexes, and referees.
