Environment Ministry tracks red tide outbreak on east coast

Abu Dhabi, Sept 9, 2009 (WAM) - The Ministry of Environment and Water has started a comprehensive programme to track and monitor red tide bloom on the east coast, covering the areas between Dibba Al Hosn and Al Faqit Marine Reserve and Khorfakkan, as well as the waters stretching between Murbih Port to Righailat and Kalba ports. Experts and marine scientists monitored and collected samples of the bloom from the areas hit by the red tide during the past few days.
According to the Ministry's researchers, no fish mortalities were registered in the impacted areas. The Ministry, however, warned fishermen and swimmers to strictly follow safety instructions and avoid fishing and swimming in the affected areas and not to consume the potentially toxic fish washed ashore by the red tide.
