ORENBURG, September 11 (Itar-Tass) - Kazakh President Nursultan
Nazarbayev said on Friday his country could provide electric power support
to Siberia's regions after the accident at Russia's biggest
Sayano-Shushenskaya hydropower plant.

"It is absolutely possible to provide electric power support following
the accident at the Sayano-Shushenskaya plant not only by means of coal
exports, but also through power transfer. We can transfer around 500 MW,
the more so when the issues of power exchange through Kazakhstan were
resolved long ago," he told the interregional cooperation forum in
Orenburg, the Southern Urals.
Nazarbayev stressed that Russia and Kazakhstan face difficult problems
in the electric power sector, such as the ageing of main electric power
facilities, high intensity of electric power use, low tariffs and the need
to increase investment attractiveness of the electric power market.
