Black Sea Fleet not subordinate to N-Caucasus district - commander.
KALININGRAD, September 12 (Itar-Tass) -- The commander-in-chief of
Russia's Navy, Admiral Vladimir Vysotsky, has denied the rumors Russia's
Black Sea Fleet has been re-subordinated to the North Caucasus military
district.
"There is no such thing as direct subordination. The point at issue is
pooling forces in the south and southwest of the country for coping with
operative tasks under the commander of the North Caucasus military
district," he said.
.Russian Air Force to monitor Bold Avenger-2009 exercise.
MOSCOW, September 12 (Itar-Tass) -- Russia will monitor NATO's Bold
Avenger-2009 exercise, to be held in the air space of the Baltic
countries, Denmark and Britain, an aide to the Russian Air Force
commander, Colonel Vladimir Drik, told Itar-Tass on Friday.
"Our Air Force units are in an active condition in connection with the
participation in the operative-tactical exercises Zapad-2009 and
Ladoga-2009. Naturally, those forces, first and foremost A-50 early
warning radar-carrying planes, will be used to monitor NATO's exercises,
the more so, since these will be pretty close to our exercises," Drik
said. "I believe that NATO forces will keep an eye on our exercises, too."
At Bold Avenger exercises NATO forces normally practice tactical
operations, such as refueling in the air, dogfight and attacks on ground
targets. Taking part in the exercise will be 40 planes from twelve NATO
countries, including Poland, Denmark, the Netherlands, Turkey, Norway, the
United States and Germany.
.Ukraine's Party of Regions to press for higher social standards.
KIEV, September 12 (Itar-Tass) -- The Ukrainian parliament will not
consider a draft budget for next year until the question of raising social
standards has been decided, the leader of the oppositional Party of
Regions, Viktor Yanukovich, said during a trip to the city of Krivoi Rog,
the Dnepropetrovsk Region, on Friday.
The Party of Regions continues to insist on greater social benefits
and, in that connection, on amendments to the 2009 budget.
"First, amendments must be made to the state budget for this year, and
then to a budget for 2010 adopted," the Party of Regions' press-service
quotes Yanukovich as saying.
He warned that his party would be staging protest actions in order to
make the government and parliament make decisions to raise social
standards.
"We shall urge the people to demonstrate. We have no other options,"
Yanukovich said.
The Party of Regions faction has blocked the parliament's work for
days to press for the adoption of laws on higher social standards.
The Yulia Timoshenko Bloc argues the opponents' proposals are sheer
populism. YTB faction member Stepan Kurpil has told the media the YTB does
not refuse to consider bills concerning social standards.
"Let us discuss these proposals. But it is no good to use force to
make others vote at a time when most legislators are certain that this is
populism and irresponsibility," he said.
