Russia's Sberbank to open branch department in India.
MOSCOW, September 14 (Itar-Tass) - Russia's Sberbank (savings bank) is making preparations for opening its branch department in India.
The
advance to the financial market of one of the biggest countries in Asia is
one more step towards Sberbank's international expansion envisaged in the
strategy of Sberbank's development until 2014.
Last December Sberbank was licensed by the Central Bank of Russia to
open its overseas department. Then, Sberbank submitted a package of
documents to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to get a corresponding
license from the Indian side. RBI forwarded the corresponding permission
to Sberbank in the end of August 2009, authorizing Sberbank to open its
branch department in New Delhi.
At present, Sberbank has been employing personnel for its Indian
department and providing the necessary equipment to its Indian office,
which is obligatory for subsequent issuance of a RBI banking license to
Sberbank, the business news agency Prime-TASS said.
