Post office building comes under gunfire in Ingushetia.
NAZRAN, September 15 (Itar-Tass) - Three militants were killed in a
clash with law enforcers in Nazran, the Republic of Ingushetia in the
North Caucasus, where unidentified gunmen opened gunfire at a post office
building at around midnight on Monday. Another two militants managed to
escape.
No law enforcers or civilians were hurt in the shootout, a source at
Ingushetia's Interior Ministry told Itar-Tass
Apart from the Post Office No.15, the same building houses
Ingushetia's Department for Telecommunications and the Kvant telephone
station.
. Medvedev to face participants of Valdai discussion club.
MOSCOW, September 15 (Itar-Tass) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev
will on Tuesday meet a large group of political scientists and analysts
specializing on Russia-related issues within the framework of the
international Valdai discussion club.
By tradition a meeting with the Russian president will wrap up the
Valdai Forum.
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin met the participants in the
Valdai Forum on Friday. The conversation dwelt on Russia's relations with
the West, the situation around Abkhazia and South Ossetia, the new U.S.
administration that has begun its work, and the general burden of
accumulated problems.
The Valdai discussion club was founded in October 2004. The first
meeting was held on the banks of Lake Valdai. Since then the Valdai Forum
has been meeting annually in September. Such discussions are aimed at
forming an international expert playground where leading Russian and
foreign experts on Russia can get reputable information about the country
and society from prominent and respected people.
Over the past five years the Valdai Forum has turned into a
universally recognized gathering for Western scientific elite who study
Russia. Seventy percent of foreign participants take part in Valdai's
discussions on a regular basis.
. Russian government to discuss energy& federal target programs.
MOSCOW, September 15 (Itar-Tass) - The Russian government will on
Tuesday discuss the implementation of Federal Target Programs and the
Federal Target Investment Program in the first half of 2009.
According to the press service of the Russian cabinet of ministers,
the agenda includes six items, including transition to the provision of
vital services and information in electronic formats by the federal
executive authorities.
A government source told Itar-Tass that the first stage of creating a
single information and inquiry system of state services would be set up by
the end of 2009. A single information resource will open in the Internet.
The portal will contain a list of state services and conditions of their
provision to individuals and legal entities.
Other topics for discussion on Tuesday will include ratification of an
agreement between the Russian government and the inter-state foundation
for humanitarian cooperation of the CIS member countries on conditions of
its presence in the territory of Russia; the signing of agreements between
the Russian government and the European Communities for financing and
implementing a program of border cooperation within the framework of the
European Vehicle of Good-Neighbourly Relations and Partnership.
The Russian government will also consider an investment program of
state electric power companies for 2010 and draft programs of long-term
and mid-term development of the Russian power sector.
.Cultural heritage laws to be discussed at a gathering in Urals.
YEKATERINBURG, the Urals, September 15 (Itar-Tass) - More than 200
officials, scientists and restoration workers will take part in the VIII
Russian Congress on protection of cultural heritage of the peoples of
Russia. It is opening in Yekaterinburg, the Urals, on Tuesday.
The conference will be attended by Alexander Kibovsky, the head of the
Federal service for monitoring compliance with the cultural heritage
protection law, representatives of the Russian Culture Ministry, State
Duma deputies and representatives of regional branches of the All-Russian
society for the protection of historical and cultural monuments.
The delegates will discuss the improvement of legislation on
protection of cultural heritage, the organization and holding of a state
expertise and the formation of a single state register of cultural
monuments etc, a source at the Ministry of Culture of the Sverdlovsk
region told Itar-Tass.
The Sverdlovsk region has almost 1,300 state-protected historical and
cultural landmarks.
