Palestine President at U.N. Says Arab Plan is Way Forward

United Nations, September 26, SPA -- Palestinian Authority President
Mahmoud Abbas told the 64th session of the United Nations General
Assembly that King Abdullah’s Arab Peace Initiative is the basis for
guaranteeing Palestinians rights and opening peace negotiations.

“ We are confident that all our brothers in the sisterly Arab
countries will adhere to the Arab Peace Initiative as a basis for
safeguarding our rights and to open the way towards real peaceful
relations once occupation is ended and the independent state of
Palestine is established,” Abbas said yesterday.

He described the Arab Peace Initiative as “a precious opportunity
that must be seized upon.”

He also praised U.S. President Barack Obama’s commitment to a
two-state solution and for reiterating in his speech at the U.N. on
Wednesday that Israel’s settlements policy must be ended.
