Russia urges joint efforts of N Korea negotiators - FM.

6/10 Tass 317

MOSCOW, October 6 (Itar-Tass) - Russia has called on all negotiators
of the six party talks on North Korea's denuclearisation to pool efforts
to resolve the situation on the Korean Peninsula, Russian Deputy Foreign
Minister Alexei Borodavkin told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.

"These talks should be aimed at denuclearising the Korean Peninsula.
We are confident that a negotiating solution to North Korea's nuclear
problem exists and can and should be reached through joint efforts," he
said.
"We believe that denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula is necessary
in the context of strengthening common security in Northeast Asia," the
diplomat said. "We believe that it is necessary to strengthen collective
security not through attempts to get bigger security for oneself, and not
through attempts to get zero results, but through joint coordinated
efforts."
"Security measures in Northeast Asia should be strengthened by means
of creating relevant political and diplomatic mechanisms and building
measures of confidence among the states, but not by means of trying to
create nuclear deterrence potential," the deputy minister said.
"The Russian side is ready to resume the six-party negotiating
process, when other negotiators express readiness, and as soon as we see a
signal that we hope to receive from our Chinese counterparts who chair the
talks," Borodavkin said.
"We hail North Korea's readiness to return to the six-party
negotiations," he said. "There is no need to postpone resumption of the
negotiating process."
