VLADIVOSTOK, October 6 (Itar-Tass) - Vladivostok, the Japanese port of
Sakaiminato and the South Korean city of Donghee signed a trilateral
cooperation agreement on Tuesday.
The agreement envisages preparations for and holding of joint
large-scale activities, such as economic, humanitarian and tourist
exchanges, exhibitions, concerts and sport competitions. A schedule of
joint measures will be worked out in the near future, an official at the
Vladivistok administration's press service told Tass.
The agreement was signed by the Mayor of the Japanese city of
Sakaiminato, Katsuji Nakamura, and Mayor of the South Korean city of
Donghee, Kim Hak-Gi, who arrived in Vladivostok aboard a ferry, which had
opened a new international sea route connecting the three neighboring
countries in the Asia-Pacific Region - Russia, Japan and the Republic of
Korea.
The vessel servicing the Vladivostok-Sakaiminato-Donghee route is
capable of carrying 500 passengers, 70 cars and 130 containers.
"The signing of the trilateral agreement as well as organization of
the ferry line is not just a step to develop mutually beneficial economic,
tourist and cultural relations between the three countries and three
cities. It may be regarded as our common response to the challenges of the
world crisis," Deputy Head of the Vladivostok Administration Natalia
Voinovskaya said.
