Russia must not be urged to help Afghanistan as it does it: FM.
CHISINAU, October 9 (Itar-Tass) - Russia renders assistance to
Afghanistan, and to urge it to do that is to force an open door, Russian
Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Friday, commenting on a statement
by Assistant Secretary of Defence Alexander Vershbow, who has urged Russia
to help Afghanistan.
"We are training personnel for Afghanistan, not only civil but also
for law enforcement agencies," the foreign minister noted. He said that
"hundreds of Afghan policemen" had been trained in Russia, and this
information was available for Vershbow.
Besides, "early in August Russia together with Germany handed over to
Afghan police two helicopters for the medical evacuation service," the
Russian foreign minister noted.
