Putin to hold talks in Beijing, attend ceremonial meeting.
BEIJING, October 13 (Itar-Tass) - Prime Minister Vladimir Putin of the
Russian Federation (RF), who has arrived in the People's Republic of China
(PRC) for an official visit, is to hold talks here on Tuesday with his
Chinese counterpart Wen Jiabao, the talks as a result of which the sides
will sign a package of documents on cooperation in various fields.
Yuri Ushakov, deputy chief of the RF government staff, has told
journalists that agreements will be signed at the level of both the
governments of the two countries and interbank cooperation.
Prior to the talks, Vladimir Putin is to visit the Dormition Cathedral
built in the grounds of the RF Embassy in Beijing. The Cathedral had been
partially dismantled and converted into an Embassy garage in the middle of
the 1950s when the Orthodox ecclesiastical mission in the city had been
abolished. However, more than half a century later, in April this year,
bells were reinstalled in the bell-tower of the Cathedral.
After a tour of the Cathedral, Putin is expected to give an interview
to Chinese media.
On Tuesday afternoon the Russian Head of Government is to hold talks
with Wen Jiabao, Premier of the State Council of the PRC. Ushakov said
that at first the meeting would be held in a narrow format and then would
be continued with the participation of government delegations.
The sides intend to discuss various aspects of cooperation. "The
Russian side has no acute questions with respect to our partners," the
official said. In response to a question as to whether the theme of the
closure of the Cherkizov market and the situation concerning its former
workers (many of whom are Chinese nationals) would be raised during the
conversation, Ushakov said: "The Premier will not be the first to raise
the subject but he knows what to answer".
At the close of the talks Vladimir Putin and Wen Jiabao will meet with
members of the Russian and Chinese business communities, who are taking
part in an economic forum.
Putin has been also invited to attend an official dinner to be given
on behalf of the Premier of the State Council, and somewhat later attend a
ceremonial meeting on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the
establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The
anniversary is marked this year. Tuesday evening will be devoted to an
official conclusion of the Year of the Russian Language in the PRC.
Wednesday, October14, will be devoted to the work of the Council of
the Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
However, on Wednesday afternoon Putin will be again preoccupied with
matters concerning Russo-Chinese relations. Although PRC President Hu
Jintao will hold a meeting with all the Heads of Government of SCO
member-countries on Wednesday, he will have a separate conversation with
the Russian Premier later in the day. Putin will also meet with Wu
Bangguo, Head of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress
(top legislature of the country).
