BEIJING, October 14 (Itar-Tass) - Russian Prime Minister Vladimir
Putin and Chinese President Hu Jintao consider the Russian premier's visit
to China successful.
Opening the meeting, Hu said: "Today this is the meeting of old
friends."
"I confirm - our friendly relations help us solve various problems,"
Putin said.
Hu said Putin had had very successful talks with Chinese Prime
Minister Wen Jiabao on Tuesday. "During you visit, very intensive and
different events are taking place and your visit is a big success," Hu
said.
He expressed confidence that the Russian prime minister's stay in
China "will give a powerful impetus to further development of
Russian-Chinese strategic partnership".
Putin shared Hu's point of view on the results of the visit. "The
visit is really very successful," the prime minister said. He noted that
the visit was being held in a special atmosphere on the year of the 60th
anniversary of China's formation. "We are very glad to share the feelings
with the Chinese people," he said.
The Russian prime minister said this was not his first visit to China.
"It seemed to me that I know all in China. But I travelled for the first
time to the place where we were meeting that is why it was very
interesting for me to see this site," Putin said.
Putin is in Beijing to take part in the meeting of the Council of SCO
Heads of Government.
Addressing the participants in the session, Putin said the joint
initiative on overcoming the effects of the global financial crisis would
create a good base for using all possibilities for cooperation during the
post-crisis development. "This document allows us to coordinate
anti-crisis measures within the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organisation)."
"In fact we intend to create the kind of 'headquarters' to be
responsible for carrying out a long-term programme on multilateral trade
and economic cooperation between SCO countries," the Russian prime
minister explained. "As for developing business-like cooperation, expert
groups should deal with this problem. A country, which will organise the
next meeting of SCO economics ministers, should coordinate the work of
expert groups," he said.
"The crisis became a catalyser of the world financial architecture
reform. I believe that the SCO should take part an active part in this
process. Moreover, our organisation was a real factor of global security
and economic interaction," the Russian prime minister stressed.
Earlier in the day, the SCO prime ministers adopted a joint initiative
on overcoming the effects of the world financial economic crisis and
ensuring further development of the SCO economies.
The premiers also adopted a joint statement on combating infectious
diseases in the SCO space and a joint communique on the results of their
meeting.
In addition, the premiers endorsed the decision on the report by the
SCO Secretariat on the progress in the program of varied trade-economic
cooperation between the SCO member-states, and the SCO financial statement
on meeting the 2008 budget targets and the SCO budget-2010. They also
approved the decisions on redistribution of the expenditure on the SCO
Secretariat and the Executive Committee of the SCO regional anti-terrorist
organisation for 2009.
The prime ministers signed a protocol between the customs services of
the SCO member-states on cooperation in training and advanced training of
customs officials.
The SCO is a sub-regional international organization comprising
Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
Mongolia, India, Iran and Pakistan have been granted the status of
observers in the organisation.
