.Saratov to open new 13-km Volga bridge.

SAMARA, October 16 (Itar-Tass) -- The second line of the new bridge
across the Volga River will be inaugurated on Friday to decrease the way
from Europe to Asia by 500 kilometers.
The Volgomost Company that constructed the bridge said it will have a
total length of 12760 meters and will bypass the cities of Saratov and
Engels.
The old bridge across the Volga River in Saratov was the longest one
in Russia when it was commissioned in 1965. Its length is 2804 meters and
it connects Saratov on the right bank of the river with Engels on the left
bank.
The new bridge at the village Pristannoye is 14 kilometers upstream
from the old one.
The first line of the new bridge was commissioned in 2000 and
currently accounts for a half of the whole regional traffic across the
Volga. The second line will expand the bridge to two lanes in each
direction.
Volgomost said it used unique technologies to build the bridge that
allowed to decrease construction time by two years and save 400 million
rubles of budget money.

.Hate crimes down in Voronezh region.

VORONEZH, October 16 (Itar-Tass) -- The number of hate crimes
decreased in Russia's Voronezh region as all the culprits were exposed and
punished, according to regional prosecutor Nikolai Shishkin.
"Inevitability of punishment was the main reason for the decrease in
the number of such crimes," he told Tass on the eve of the Friday meeting
in Voronezh of top prosecutors and policeman from the Central Federal
District who will discuss prevention of extremism. Prosecutor General Yuri
Chaika will participate.
Shishkin said there were eleven hate crimes in 2006 and the number
halved in 2009.
Numerous high-profile hate crimes against non-white foreigners were
committed in the region in 2004-2005. Several foreign students were killed
and nearly 20 wounded.
"None of the crimes remained unexposed. The criminals, who were
representatives of informal youth groups, received punishment they
deserved," Shishkin said.
