Vladivostok, Wonsan becomes sister cities.

VLADIVOSTOK, October 19 (Itar-Tass) - The Russian Vladivostok and the
North Korean city of Wonsan have become sister cities after the heads of
the Vladivostok and Wonsan administrations signed an agreement on the
relations of sister cities between the two territories. The signing
ceremony was held in Wonsan on Monday where a delegation from Vladivostok
arrived on the eve of the signing ceremony.
A presentation- exhibition titled "Vladivostok with Open Heart" was
held in Wonsan on the occasion. The department for international
relations of the Vladivostok administration organized the exhibition.
Wonsan is the second biggest city in North Korea after Pyongyang. A
grandiose monument to soldiers killed in fighting for the liberation of
Korea is situated in the center of Wonsan. There is a children's
international vacation center in Wonsan that enjoys great popularity.
Vladivostok has long standing relations of friendship and cooperation
with North Korea. The policies of people's diplomacy - cultural exchange,
organization of joint concert programs, students' exchange, promote the
development of contacts between the two cities. In this context the
agreement on the status of sister-cities signed by Wonsan and Vladivostok
acquired a particular importance.
At present Vladivostok has the relations of sister cities with San
Diego, Tacoma and Juno in the United States, Niigata, Akita and Hakodate
in Japan, Pusan in South Korea, Dalang in China. An agreement is being
prepared on establishing the relations of sister-cities between
Vladivostok with Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam and Talcahuano in Chile.
