France, Turkmenistan to provide joint assistance to Afghanistan.
ASHGABAT, October 21 (Itar-Tass) - France and Turkmenistan plan to
provide joint assistance to Afghanistan. A delegation headed by French
president's special envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan Thierry Mariani on
Tuesday held talks here on the establishment of close cooperation with the
Turkmen partners in the interests of the establishment of peaceful live on
Afghan soil, the press service of the government of Turkmenistan reported
on Tuesday.
The talks' participants noted the considerable Turkmenistani
contribution to the development of the socio-economic infrastructure of
Afghanistan, in particular the expansion of the power transmission lines'
network, as well as the construction of a number of educational and health
facilities in the northern provinces of the neighbouring state.
Turkmenistani President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov for the purposes of
support of the Afghan people adopted in 2007 decisions on the writing off
of the Afghan debt for the supplied Turkmen electricity, and the total
reconstruction of a two-kilometre railway line from the border of
Turkmenistan to the Afghan city of Turgundi was made. Turkmenistan
provides air and ground corridors for the delivery to Afghanistan of
humanitarian aid from a number of countries and international
organisations.
