YEREVAN, October 21 (Itar-Tass) - Armenia attaches major importance to
cooperation with the United States and is grateful to the American
government for the large-scale assistance provided to the republic after
it declared independence, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said on
Tuesday receiving US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and
Eurasian Affairs Tina S. Kaidanow. He also thanked the Americans for the
efforts to establish peace and stability in the region, the presidential
press service told Itar-Tass.
At the meeting the parties discussed prospects for the development of
the bilateral relations between Armenian and the United States, process of
normalising Armenian-Turkish relations and problems of regional security,
the press service noted.
The president welcomed the first arrival of Kaidanow in Armenia, and
the guest conveyed to him best regards from US Secretary of State Hillary
Clinton.
The sides stressed the major importance of progress in the
normalisation of the Armenian-Turkish relations. They stressed that the
establishment of relations between Yerevan and Ankara should happen
without preliminary conditions and in reasonable time. Kaidanow recalled
that the United States has repeatedly and at various levels voiced this
position also at other stages of Armenian-Turkish relations' normalisation
and will preserve this stance.
