Russian, Italian, Turkish premiers to discuss South Stream project.

ST PETERSBURG, October 22 (Itar-Tass) - The prime ministers of Russia,
Italy and Turkey will discuss in St.Petersburg on Thursday the
implementation of the South Stream project .
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin told Italian Prime Minister
Silvio Berlusconi, who arrived in St.Petersburg on Wednesday, that "the
three of us, including the Turkish prime minister, will have an
opportunity to discuss (South Stream)."
He reminded that Russia cooperates with Italy's Eni in this project at
present.
South Stream is a strategically important project for Europe's energy
security. It will be implemented before the end of 2015. At present, work
is underway to prepare a feasibility study of the stretch of the pipeline
running across the Black Sea and a number of countries.
During the talks on Wednesday, Putin and Berlusconi discussed
bilateral investments and energy projects, trade-economic relations, and
cooperation with third partners.
The premiers discussed joint production of light trams in Petersburg.
Taking part in the discussion was Petersburg governor Valentina Matviyenko.
"Each town has trams that need an upgrade. In St.Petersburg alone, 30
percent of trams have to be replaced. In case of support from the
governments of Russia and Italy, we could impelment a Russian-Italian
project that has good prospects," Matviyenko said.
Putin udnerlined that the Russian government should take a close look
at how the project might affect the domestic market.
"In general, the market is large; it might be a good concrete
project," the Russian premier said.
For his part, Berlusconi noted he was glad to see an Italian company's
being able to enter the Russian market and bring its technologies.
In his opinion, the Russian market of trams will require modernization
in the future.
According to Berlusconi, Italy has an experience in setting up joint
companies with Turkey.
Italy intends to build a helicopter producing company in Turkey, the
Italian prime minister said.
