PYONGYANG, October 25 (Itar-Tass) - North Korea leader Kim Jong-Il
called for boosting production of silk fabrics in the country to supply
population with high-quality garments, reports the Korean Central News
Agency (KCNA).

The head of state made this statement during a recent inspection of a
silk-spinning factory in the city of Huichon, the province of Chagag-do.
The North Korean leader emphasised that factory workers should
continue updating production facilities and boost the output of goods so
as "to reach the world level". According to Kim, this is how the country
can come to implementing the plan of his father - "eternal DPRK president"
Kim Il-Sung who "took much effort so that citizens were able to don silk
garments, eat rice as well as meat soup and to live at homes with tile
roofs".
The KCNA also reports that the republican leader also inspected the
city plant of electrical goods and the local technological university.
While visiting the university, Kim called on the faculty "to train more
personnel who can make a contribution to consolidating the foundation of
the independent national economy".
"The amazing changes, taking place in the Chagag-do province, are a
graphic manifestation of our people's firm will to build a powerful and
prospering state at any price," the country's leader said by the results
of inspections. According to press reports, Kim was accompanied during the
trip by ranking functionaries of the central committee of the Korean
Workers' Party.
