Russia, Belarus to discuss coop in education, science

MOSCOW, October 26 (Itar-Tass) -- The boards of the Russian Ministry
of Education and Science, the Belarusian Education Ministry and the
republic's State Committee for Science and Technologies will hold a joint
meeting here on Monday to discus the development of cooperation in
education and science, a source in the Russian Ministry of Education and
Science told Itar-Tass.
High on the agenda of the meeting is the formation of a common
educational and scientific-technical space of the countries. Meanwhile,
the sides will discuss the education of specialists at the
Belarusian-Russian University and at the affiliates of Russian higher
educational institutions in Belarus.
The Russia-Belarus Union State gives priority to the development of
cooperation in education and science since the foundation of the state.
"Belarus and Russia are preparing to sign documents for creating a common
educational space soon," Russian Deputy Minister of Education and Science
Vladimir Fridlyanov said earlier. The signing of this document will be
actually formal, as since its creation of the Union State prioritises the
development of cooperation in education and science. However, Russia and
Belarus should harmonize the university admission regulations and should
agree on the recognition of thesis for Candidate of Science and Doctor of
Science degrees and other issues.
The Education Ministries of Belarus and Russia are planning to draft
an agreement on the entry of Belarusian graduates in Russian higher
educational institutions upon the results of the unified state exam and
university entrance exams. This draft agreement may be prepared already by
the entrance exams in 2010.
Over 11,000 Belarusian students educated at Russian higher educational
institutions in 2008-2009 enjoying the same rights as Russian students,
the ministry's source said.
The Belarusian-Russian University, which was founded on the premises
of the Mogilev State Technical University in 2003, works successfully in
Belarus. The university includes seven faculties and envisages the
education on 18 specialities and 26 areas of expertise under Belarusian
educational standards and six specialities under Russian educational
standards. The university also incorporates a lyceum, an architecture and
building college and the advanced training and personnel retraining
institute. More than 8,000 people study at the university.
The affiliates of the Russian State Social University and the Moscow
State University of Economics, Statistics and Informatics also operate in
Belarus. Russian and Belarusian higher educational institutions concluded
over 270 cooperation agreements that had almost doubled for the last two
years.
.BSF ship Tsezar Kunikov to call at Italian ports for Ioniex drill.
ROME, October 26 (Itar-Tass) -- The Black Sea Fleet's large landing
ship Tsezar Kunikov will call at the Italian port Taranto on Monday to
participate in the annual Russian-Italian naval exercises Ioniex-2009.
After a two-day mission in Taranto in the Ionian Sea and the Russian large
landing ship will head for the port Civitavecchia in the Tyrrhenian Sea to
stay at the port until November 2, the military attache's office of the
Russian Embassy to Italy said.
During the Ioniex-2009 exercises Russian sailors will train joint
manoeuvring and ship defence from an external threat, perform pilotage,
carry out a search operation and render assistance to a vessel in
distress. Captain Second Rank Sergei Larchuk is Tsezar Kunikov Commander,
BSF surface ships unit chief of staff, Captain First Rank Sergei Zinchenko
is the cruise commander. The Russian landing ship is on a month-long
cruise, during which the ship visited the Greek ports.
The foresaid large landing ship was built in Gdansk (Poland) in 1984
and was commissioned in 1986. The ship was initially called BDK-64 and was
renamed into Tsezar Kunikov in 1991. The ship is armed with two coupled
57-mm gun mounts AK-725, two launchers of the multiple launch rocket
system A-215 Grad-M, four launchers of the mobile air defence system
Strela-2. The large landing ship can be loaded with up to 500 tons of
military hardware and cargoes and can station 225 paratroopers.
