MOSCOW, October 28 (Itar-Tass) -- Iran plays an important role in
fighting narcotics traffic going to Europe and Russia from Afghanistan,
holds Viktor Ivanov, the head of Russia's Federal Drug Control Service.

Russian units for fighting narcotics trafficking closely cooperate
with Iranian colleagues. The two countries exchange information, Ivanov
told reporters on Wednesday.
"Iran is a transit country for Afghan narcotics. Huge amounts of
narcotics go to Europe, to Ukraine and to Russia," Ivanov said. "Some 20
percent of all opiates are confiscated in Iran," he said.
Work is under way in Iran to reinforce the border, Ivanov said. For
instance, 60 percent of servicemen of land forces are concentrated on the
border.
