POSCO completes steel pipe plant in U.S.
SEOUL, Nov. 3 (Yonhap) -- POSCO, South Korea's leading steelmaker, said Tuesday
that it has built a plant in the United States that produces pipes used by the
American Petroleum Institute for oil transportation.
The plant in Pittsburgh will produce 270,000 tons of high-quality pipes annually,
the company said.
POSCO has a 35-percent stake in the plant, named United Spiral Pipe LLC, while
United States Steel Corp. holds an equal interest. The two companies will supply
hot-rolled steel to the plant for processing.
According to POSCO, the plant will produce pipes whose diameters range from 24
inches to 64 inches.
Demand for oil pipes in the North American region with diameters over 24 inches
tops 2 million tons annually, the South Korean company said.
