.Search for Tu-142 plane crashed in Russia's Far East continues.
VLADIVOSTOK, November 9 (Itar-Tass) -- The search operation for the
crew and fragments of the Pacific Fleet's Tu-142 anti-submarine turboprop,
which crashed in the Tartar Strait, Russia's Far East, continues.
Warships, civilian vessels and aircraft are involved in the search despite
difficult weather conditions.
The search operation will enter into a new phase upon arrival in the
search area of the Alagez rescue vessel, which is carrying the special
deep-water remotely controlled Taiger and Obzor submarine craft, the
manned submarine AS-30 craft as well as the sophisticated search Kalmar
system. This equipment permits to conduct the whole scope of deepwater
operations and to find both large and small fragments of the plane. The
Alagez, which left Vladivostok on Sunday afternoon, has aboard a team of
specially trained divers, capable of conducting work at a depth of down to
200 metres. Special attention will be given to a search for flight
recorders. The Alagez may arrive in the search area already on Monday
evening.
The Defense Ministry's committee headed by chief of the flight safety
service of the Russian Air Force Major-General Bainetov arrived in the
search area.
The Tu-142 was making a combat training flight on November 6. At the
final stage of the flight over the Tartar Strait the communication with
the crew was lost and the plane disappeared off the radars. The plane had
11 crewmen. The Pacific Fleet Department of the Prosecutor General's
Office Investigation Committee instituted a criminal case over the neglect
of flight safety rules and preparations to flights. Detectives have
several versions, from a technical failure to a human factor.
