CIS defmins to discuss defence, mil-tech cooperaiton Tue.



DUSHANBE, November 10 (Itar-Tass) - The results of defence and
military-technical cooperation among the member-countries of the
Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and the importance of enhancing
interaction among the Defence Ministries in couteracting international
terrorism and other global threats are to be considered here on Tuesday by
the Defence ministers of CIS countries, an official at Tajikistan's
Defence Ministry has told Itar-Tass, pointing out that the agenda of the
ministerial meeting comprises an aggregate of 20 items.

The Russian delegation is led by Defence Minister Anatoly Serdyukov,
who arrived here on Monday night. Representatives of all the Defence
Ministries of the CIS, except Moldova, will take part in the meeting.

.RF exhibition in Venezuela presents innovative projects.

CARACAS, November 10 (Itar-Tass) - An exhibition of advanced Russian
technologies opened here on Monday, with over 30 enterprises and
organizations participating.
Jesse Chacon, Venezuelan Minister of Science, Technology and Medium
Industry, in his remarks at the opening of the exhibition, gave a high
appraisal of Russo-Venezuelan cooperation in science and technology. He
expressed confidence that the Russian exhibition would serve to promote a
further development of mutually beneficial contacts in this field.
"Cooperation with Russia and the use of advanced Russian technologies and
knowledge will enable us to strengthen Venezuela's independence in the
industrial branch," the Minister emphasized.
Yuri Sentyurin, State Secretary at the Russian Ministry of Education
and Science and First Deputy Minister, pointed out in his speech, "Russian
President Dmitry Medvedev attaches priority importance to the development
of science, equipment and innovations-based technologies and directs the
initiative of all the organizations to this goal. This is a political
guideline and State priority". "Due to this policy, Russia now has
something to demonstrate to the world, he pointed out.
Sentyurin emphasized the interest of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez
in the use of modern technologies for the purposes of socio-economic
development of the country. This is what prompted the holding of a Russian
exhibition in Caracas.
On display are innovative projects drawn up by such major associations
as the Rosatom, Rostekhnologii, Rosnanotech, the Russian Academy of
Sciences, and the Federal Bio-Medical Agency, Sentyurin pointed out in an
Itar-Tass interview. "These associations and organizations now determine
the character of Russia's science and technology," he stressed.
The display stand of the Federal Agency for Science and Innovations
features a database on more than 5,600 innovative technological projects
that are oriented towards Venezuela's requirements, he pointed out. A
separate section of the exhibition represents Russia's 20 universities
which offer their services in the training of Venezuelan students,
Sentyurin said.

.RF-EU PPC on Environment to discuss climate change.

MOSCOW, November 10 (Itar-Tass) - Yuri Trutnev, Russian Minister of
Natural Resources and Ecology, is to hold the 2nd session of the
Russia-European Union (EU) Permanent Partnership Council (PPC) on
Environment here on Tuesday.
A Ministry official has explained that the agenda of the session
includes items concerning "the results of the work done by the Russia-EU
Dialogue on Environment in 2006-2009, matters connected with climate
change, regional seas, and trans-border water streams".
It is also planned to discuss prospects for cooperation in northern
regions. The session is to be attended by Karl-Friedrich Falkenberg,
Director-General at the European Commission's Directorate-General on
Environment, and Andreas Carlgren, Swedish Minister for the Environment.
The PPC, instituted in1994, is one of the main working bodies for
Russia-EU cooperation. The Council meets in the format of both Ministers
of Foreign Affairs, and sectoral ministers.
The1st session of the PPC was held in Helsinki on October 10, 2006. At
that time, Trutnev and Stavros Dimas, the European Commission's
Commissioner for the Environment, signed Regulations on the formation of
dialogue in the field of the environment between the Russian Ministry of
Natural Resources, and the European Commission Directorate-General on the
Environment. The document is aimed at attaining goals in priority areas
reflected in the Environment section of the roadmap for a Russia-EU common
economic space.
According to the Regulations, the sides were to work out approaches in
the field of ecological policy and management, develop cooperation within
the scope of multilateral nature conservation forums and international
obligations in the field of environmental protection. The document also
presupposes the strengthening of the sides' cooperation on transborder
ecological matters and exchanges of data.
Three years ago, Russia and the EU also agreed to set up working
groups on climate change, water and maritime matters, biodiversity and
environmental protection, an estimate of impact on the environment, as
well as forest law enforcement and governance, an ecologically pure
production, and the prevention of environmental pollution.
