Atomic energy cooperation to promote Russian-Indian business - Sobyanin.

NEW DELHI, November 10 (Itar-Tass) -- Development of the atomic energy cooperation at a new level can promote Russian-Indian business partnership in the near future, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Sobyanin told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.

Sobyanin is currently in India on a working visit in connection with
the preparations for Russian-Indian summit due in Moscow in December 2009.
"Russian-Indian nuclear partnership will be comparable with the
domestic program aimed at the revival of the atomic industry by its tempo,
although new powerful competitors are expected to come to the market as a
result of the lifting of international restrictions, which restrained
development of Indian atomic energy," he said.
At the same time, the new prospects require a review of the general
cooperation strategy, Sobyanin said, adding, "With this in mind, Russia's
investment proposals, including those from the Rosatom state corporation,
should be maximally competitive and attractive."
"We have managed to provoke interest of our Indian partners," he said.
"India officially told us that it would provide two sites for the
construction of nuclear power plants," Sobyanin said, adding, "This is
very promising and breakthrough decision, which will give work to Russian
companies, and make it possible to introduce new technologies in India,
thus supplying electricity to a great number of Indian regions."
Experts of the two countries are interested in the implementation of
the existing projects. Russia and India are engaged in the construction of
the India biggest nuclear power plant Kudankulam. It will be equipped with
two 1,000-megawatt power units.
The documents, signed during Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's visit
to India in December 2008, envisage construction of another four reactors
and construction of one more nuclear power plant in Haripur (West Bengal
State).
The participants in the talks decided to intensify the drafting of a
relevant intergovernmental agreement to give "green light" to the
implementation of those large-scale projects.
Sobyanin is a co-chairman of the Russian-Indian Intergovernmental
Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural
Cooperation.
Touching upon the top-priority tasks of bilateral cooperation, he
mentioned enhancement of business contacts in the space research, high
technologies, telecommunications, and pharmaceutics.
Sobyanin also pointed to the expansion of traditional cooperation and
development of new fields of interaction. For instance, Indian
pharmaceutical companies were invited to set up joint ventures and build
factories for the productions of medicines in Russia.
