Indian gvt allocates new site for Russian designed NPP - Sobyanin.
MOSCOW, November 11 (Itar-Tass) --The Indian government has allocated one more construction site for a Russia-designed nuclear power plant.
The Indian government has officially informed the Russian side, it has
assigned one more construction site for a nuclear power plant with the
reactors of the Russian design in still another Indian state West Bengal,
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Sobyanin told reporters while
visiting the Kulankudam NPP site, where the WWER-1000 reactors of the
Russian design are being mounted.
In the Rosatom State Corporation Release received by Itar-Tass Sergei
Sobyanin is cited as saying, in Kulankudam "nuclear reactor blocs have
been constructed with the most modern technologies, using the newest
security systems." "There are no doubts, this will be the most powerful
and reliable NPP in India, - Russian Deputy Prime Minister emphasized. We
are satisfied with the Russian-Indian cooperation in the sphere of nuclear
power use for peaceful purposes; there are vast prospects here in the
'peaceful atom sector'. By the yearend we hope to sign the documents on
the construction of the 3rd and 4 th Kulankudam NPP blocs, he said. It
means, till the end of 2010 one may get to the 'first cement stage'.
At present in India there exists a 15% deficit of electric energy,
which is a development containing factor taking into account the dramatic
economic growth of the country. That is why the putting into operation of
new energy capacities in India is an undoubtedly important task, Sobyanin
underlined.
During his Indian visit Sergei Sobyanin inspected the central hall of
the 1st Kulankudam NPP bloc, where the reactor had already been mounted.
He examined the bloc's control panel of the NPP in the control room, where
automatic system of control of technical processes (ASCTP) is installed,
manufactured by a Russian consortium of enterprises of nuclear-armaments
complex; inspected the machinery hall, a sea water desalination plant and
some other objects on the construction site, the Rosatom Release says.
