RF deputy formin to discuss European security in Athens.

ATHENS, November 12 (Itar-Tass) - Russian Deputy Foreign Minister
Vladimir Titov will discuss European security and implementation of joint energy projects here on Thursday. He arrived in Greece for consultations between the two foreign ministries, Itar-Tass learnt at the Russian embassy in Athens.

"Titov will meet on Thursday Alternate Foreign Minister Dimitris
Droutsas and is expected to be received by Greek premier George Papandreou
who also heads the Foreign Ministry. On Friday, Titov plans to meet Greek
Deputy Foreign Minister Spiros Kouvelis.
"The sides will discuss a broad range of international issues at their
Athens meetings," Itar-Tass learnt from press attache of the Russian
embassy Vassily Gavrilov. "The sides will discuss bilateral relations,
including trade, economic and energy cooperation, among them the joint
projects of building the Burgas-Alexandroupolis oil pipeline and the South
Stream gas pipeline.
According to the diplomat, the sides will discuss European security,
OSCE operations, the situation in the Balkans and the problem of a Cyprus
settlement. "The Russian side has a positive trend for talks," Gavrilov
said. "These will be the first meetings between the Russian deputy foreign
minister and representatives of the Greek Foreign Ministry after the
victory of the Greek Socialists at the early general elections last
October."
In June, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov participated in a
plenary meeting of OSCE foreign ministers in the Greek island of Corfu as
well as in a meeting of the Russia-NATO Council where the sides reached an
understanding on full restoration of the political dialogue and resumption
of military contacts between Russia and the alliance, frozen after the
August 2008 events.
Early in December, Greece intends, as the OSCE president, to call a
meeting of the Organisation's foreign ministers, which will centre on
European security.

.Latvia opens St. Petersburg Festival.

RIGA, November 12 (Itar-Tass) - The Latvian capital opens on Thursday
the St. Petersburg Festival. The Petersburg delegation is led by
Vice-Governor Alla Manilova who will meet on Thursday Riga Mayor Nil
Ushakov.
The programme of the festival which will last till November 14,
includes exhibitions, guest performances by theatres as well as official,
business and sport events, Itar-Tass learnt at the press service of the
Riga City Council.
The programme provides for meetings between representatives of St.
Petersburg higher educational establishments and headmasters of Riga
schools as well as Latvian universities so as to inform them of
possibilities of acquiring higher education at the former Russian imperial
capital.
Besides, delegation members will meet Riga businessmen and will
participate in the seminar "St. Petersburg and Riga: in search for new
areas of cooperation".
The Petersburg delegation will also meet Riga Mayor Nil Ushakov,
Russian Ambassador to the Baltic republic Alexander Veshanyakov and
representatives of Russian fellow countrymen in Latvia. A ceremony will be
held at the last meeting to award residents of Leningrad (Eds: former name
of Petersburg) who lived in the besieged city during World War II, the
commemoration medal "In honour of the 65th anniversary of Leningrad's
liberation from the Nazi blockade".
Riga citizens will view a soccer friendly between youth teams of the
two cities on the last day of the festival.
The cultural programme of the festival is also packed. The play by the
Lensovet Theatre "Frederik or boulevard of crimes", directed by Vladislav
Pazi, will unveil the theatrical programme. Performer of the star role
Sergei Migitsko was awarded for this work the highest Petersburg
theatrical prize "Golden bank of lights". Actor and stage director Andrei
Knyazkov also received a similar prize.
The Baltic House Theatre will show Riga residents one of their most
popular plays of the past seasons - "Bury me below the plinth", staged by
Igor Konyaev.
The Dance Company, led by Natalya Kasparova, will bring the play in
two parts "Crossroads" and "Come and Go".
