Police captain sentenced for extortion.
ORYOL, November 20 (Itar-Tass) -- The Oryol regional court sentenced
on Thursday a police captain to 4.5 years in prison for office abuse and
extortion.
Spokeswoman of Oryol regional Investigation Committee Yulia Dorofeyeva
told Tass Sergei Gavrilin was senior investigator of the internal security
unit of Oryol regional interior department.
In October 2007 Gavrilin eliminated evidence against a businessman
thus helping him to avoid punishment for copyright violation. Later he
demanded the businessman to pay him 100 thousand rubles for that. Gavrilin
was detained while receiving the money.
