SHARJAH RULER TO OPEN SHARJAH ISLAMIC MUSEUM

SHARJAH, UAE, June 5 (WAM) - H.H Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah will open the Sharjah Islamic Museum on Tuesday.

The Islamic Artefacts Exhibition will also be open on the same day in cooperation with the Berlin Islamic Museum which will put some pieces on display for the first time outside Germany.

The museum which is the first of its kind in the UAE presents the deep roots in the Arab and Islamic culture.

Exhibits within the Islamic Museum include artefacts and manuscripts expressing a distinct Islamic heritage. A number of scientific and religious manuscripts as well as a collection of Islamic arts and crafts are on display. Items of particular note within the Sharjah Islamic Museum are the clay, pottery and glass as well as metallic handicrafts inlayed with silver, gold and brass.

Other collections on display within the Islamic Museum are ornamental tools, jewellery and various Islamic currencies dating to both Abbasside and Omayyad eras. These include collections of silver dinars and dirhams.
