Test cricket set for an overhaul

New Delhi, Dec 29 (PTI) Test cricket appears set for an
overhaul -- a Championship League, 4-day matches and day-night
ties being among the possibilities.

"There are so many ideas all over the place", according
to the International Cricket Council (ICC) Chief Executive
Haroon Lorgat who said that a 5-member sub-committee was
looking into the options to arrest the sagging interest in
Test cricket.
Lorgat told PTI in an interview that "some form" of a
Test Championship League (TCL) was what the ICC is trying to
achieve in place of World Test Championship mooted earlier and
opposed by countries like India because it impacted on their
scheduling.
Former South African wicketkeeper Dave Richardson, David
Collier (England), N Srinivasan (India), James Sutherland
(Australia) and Nishanta Ranatunga (Sri Lanka) were members of
the committee that was formulating proposals on boosting Test
cricket.
The ideas before the committee included 4-day matches
proposed by ICC President David Morgan and day-night cricket
which will require research, he said.
