Delhi and Mumbai airports get additional CISF men
New Delhi, Jan 3 (PTI) In an effort to enhance security
at Delhi and Mumbai airports, the Indian government has
sanctioned more than 800 additional security personnel.
Currently, both the airports have a combined strength of
around 4,300 Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) men.
While the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in
the national capital will have 289 new posts in the ranks of
constables, sub-inspectors and inspectors, the Mumbai
International Airport will have 518 additional CISF personnel.
The new strength will also be used to secure the vicinity
of these airports as anti-sabotage measures and in view of
heightened terror threats.
The strength of the security men drawn from the CISF has
also been enhanced at the Rajiv Gandhi Thermal Power project
in the northern Indian state of Haryana (126 posts) and
Ratnagiri Gas and Power Limited in the western state of
Maharashtra (231 posts).
The Aurangabad airport has also been granted additional
55 posts of security men.
The new sanction has been made to create various posts
which were essential as per necessary security requirements,
sources said, adding that the deployment will happen in a
phased manner soon.
The Indian power ministry had recently said all its
projects in the country face increasing terror threats and the
CISF would provide security cover to all its plants in the
next three to five years.
Out of 300 power plants in the country, 90 are still to
get CISF security cover. PTI NES
