2NDLD TELANGANA 4 LAST

Replying to reporters questions, Chidambaram said
political parties must show leadership. "They must work to
resolve the problem and that is the only way to settle the
issues in parliamentary democracy".

He said a mechanism has to be evolved and the Centre
would act on the sense of the meeting and take it forward.
Asked if there was a time frame, he said "reasonable".
To another question whether further meetings would be
held, he said "possible".
Questioned whether there would be a seperate state of
Telangana, he said "we are trying to help political parties of
Andhra Pradesh to find the answer to the issues of the state.
We are here to help".
At the meeting, while Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) and
Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) opposed the creation
of Telangana, the Telegu Desam Party (TDP) appeared to be
divided. Chiranjeevi raked up the issue of Maoists to justify
his party's stand against creation of separate Telangana.
TDP representative from Telangana region Revuri Prakash
Reddy is understood to have handed over a communication typed
on TDP letterhead saying the party had never changed its stand
on Telangana. It had passed a resolution in the party forum to
support the Telangana state, he said.
Congress representatives K S Rao, MP, and Uttam Kumar
Reddy said they would abide by the decision of the high
command.
Reddy countered PRP's argument on Maoists saying the Left
wing movement has disintegrated in the state of Andhra Pradesh
and no new recruitment was happening. PTI ACB
