While mentioning that the agreements signed between
the two countries provide the framework for the bilateral
relationships, Kunda said it is important that the existing
agreements are fully utilised.
Noting that the export of Zambia to India had grown by
91 per cent since 2004, he said there was lot of opportunities
for investment in agriculture and other sectors in Zambia.
Stressing on strengthening the cooperation with Zambia
in economic, commercial and technical fields, Ansari said
India would like the African country to take advantage of the
new initiatives announced at the India-Africa Forum Summit of
2008 particularly in regard to the concessional credit lines
to promote trade between both the nations.
The Vice-President said India will continue with the
process of extending its Line of Credit for infrastructural
and industrial projects that would contribute to Zambian
developments.
He also said both the countries have historically been
allies in the struggle for independence, equality, human
rights, freedom and democracy for Southern African and other
developing countries.
"India will make available grants for the agriculture,
health and education sectors in Zambia," Ansari added.
In the banquet, Ansari was greeted with Hindi songs
sung by Zambian vocal groups as well as local dances.
Today, Ansari will be signing a number of bilateral
agreements with the Zambian government to promote trade and
political ties between the two countries. PTI
