"We have also decided to extend a Line of Credit of
USD 75 million to Zambia in two years," Katju said, adding
that India would wait for proposals preferably for education
and agriculture sectors from the Zambian government for this
LOC.
"In addition to this, we would also be giving a grant
of USD five million to the Zambian government, which would be
available for social sectors," he said.
Ansari also met the Zambian President Rupiah Bwezani
Banda at State House in the capital.
"Zambian leadership expressed gratitude for the
assistance given by India during their de-colonisation
period," Katju said.
He said that the Indian Vice President told the
Zambian leaders that Indo-Zambian relationship should focus on
three areas as we take forward the relationship between the
two countries.
"The first is the area of bilateral relationship,
the second is an engagement in the context of pan-Africa and
the third is our cooperation in multi-lateral forums," Katju
said.
Zambian Finance Minister Stumbeko Musokotwane and
other members of the Indian delegation, including Minister of
Labour and Employment Harish Rawat, were also present.
Ansari, who arrived in Zambia on January 5, has a
scheduled meeting with the first President of the country
Kenneth Kaunda on January 7 before he departs for Malawi and
Botswana during his week-long tour of the three countries
that began Tuesday. PTI
